Antique Baluchi Rugs
Baluchi rugs are the handiwork of a Baluchi tribe, which were nomadic and spanned Northeast Iran, Afghanistan and Baluchistan. Because of this nomadic lifestyle, it is difficult to attribute antique Baluchi rugs to certain tribes as the designs were constantly changing.
Antique Baluchi rugs can be identified first by the color, and then by the design. The main colors used were blue, red, brown and black – highlighted with small amounts of ivory. Traditional Baluchi rugs are mostly small, two to five by three to nine feet, since they were woven under primitive conditions on horizontal looms.
